Hailing from the rock sounds of yesteryear, The Blind Shades create catchy, melodic, feel-good tunes that most anyone can relate to. Formed in Louisville, KY in 2024, they recently recorded their first album, Back to Work, which will be released this February, 2026. Mark Hamilton (lead guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), William Fox, rhythm guitar), and Justin Carter (drums, vocals) have been friends since middle school and began playing music together again in 2023. Pat Schmeing (bass, vocals) and Eli Barker (keys) joined shortly after, solidifying the lineup.

With a penchant for fun, good times and a sensibility to not take themselves too seriously, The Blind Shades incorporate different rock styles into their sound, making it difficult for them to be categorized into a specific genre.

They've stepped out of the garage to unveil their very own “basement/living room rock.” The band strives to stay authentic and true to themselves while keeping their songwriting original and shunning any type of conformity or formulaic approach. Their sound flows from 60s classic psychedelia into 70s hard rock with tinges of surf and early punk blending with rootsy Americana sounds that also mix in early 90s indie and alternative rock influences.

In a musical world that has a lot to offer these days but seems a little dry on rock originality, The Blind Shades are bringing new, creative sounds with a fun approach.

Some of their favorite bands they draw inspiration from include The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Big Star, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Pavement, Guided by Voices, The Replacements, REM, Dinosaur Jr., The Silver Jews, The Pixies, and The Breeders….just to name a few.
